The last time I used a “goofy” face swapping app was last November when a friend of mine was trying to get me to participate in No Shave November, but since I was frequently on camera during the time, I couldn’t participate in the real thing, so I used a “goofy” face swapping app to simulate the look. On FaceApp, I’ve heard that a security firm looked into the code of the app itself, and there weren’t as large of a security issue as what was outlined in the media, but since the terms of service still raise concerns, it’s likely best not to use such apps and stick with local-editing apps instead. I’ve generally not used apps that send photos to the cloud for editing, and even when occasionally using “goofy” apps like face swapping apps, I’ve used apps that did the processing locally on the device instead of the cloud.

On iOS, I use: iOS Camera, iOS Photos, Pixelmator, Pixelmator Photos, Affinity Photos, and Waterlogue.

On the Mac I use: macOS Photos, Affinity Photo, Luminar 3, Luminar Flex, and Pixelmator Pro (Pixelmator on my older Mac, I’m also considering Waterlogue). In terms of third-party photo apps, I generally stick with respected photo apps that are used to edit photos locally on-device, except for syncing photos or projects with iCloud. Just for fun, the apps I’ll be featuring coming up will be: Pixelmator Pro, Affinity Photo, Luminar 3, and Luminar Flex (plus I’ll be talking about macOS Photos in general). They won’t upload your apps to any of their own servers, and the only time photos would be uploaded to servers would be photos you’d sync over iCloud, which would then sync with Apple’s servers, not third parties. The apps I’ll be featuring for the Mac coming up are apps for editing photos locally.
